Oui, c'est clair.... je ne connaissais pas il y a encore quelques semaines.
Je me lance (finalement en échangeant des palmiers) c'est une vrai découverte !

Ca c'est pas du tout l'avis des "experts" en Opuntia comme DJ Fergusson, du moins pour la synonymie lindheimeri = engelmannii .

The younger pads of typical O. lindheimeri are a less woody and “softer” or “greener” in appearance.

O. lindheimeri spines are yellow, or range to shades of orange-yellow or may have reddish hues. O. engelmannii spines range from white, to tan, to brownish. O. engelmannii spines may (not often) be yellow, but are not rich canary yellow or shiny yellow; they are a dull yellow. O. lindheimeri spines are shiny or plastic-like, whereas O. engelmannii spines are chalky.

O. engelmannii spines are typically darker at the base than are O. lindheimeri spines. The base of O. engelmannii spines may be dark red-brown, brown, or almost black, whereas in O. lindheimeri the bases of the spines are seldom true brown but may be red-brown, dark plum, rust-brown, or pink shades.

The annular markings of O. lindheimeri spines are more apparent that such markings in O. engelmannii.

O. lindheimeri fruits are generally pear-shaped with a rounded umbilicus; they tend to have a smooth surface and are typically red when ripe. O. engelmannii fruits are spherical or subspherical, darker and less red in color, and with a more rugose surface; the umbilicus is usually more depressed into the end of the fruit.

Plants with orange or red flowers are not uncommon in O. lindheimeri but are rare in O. engelmannii. However, yellow flowers of either species may change to orange shades on the day after anthesis.

O. engelmannii fruits are sweet and pleasant tasting, whereas those of O. lindheimeri are sour and not very sweet, sometimes almost noxious.

O. lindheimeri is primarily a plant of Texas, east of the Pecos River. In contrast O. engelmannii is typically found west of the Pecos River.

Gérard ,je me suis mal exprimé en voulant faire court . je voulais dire que Opuntia lindheimeri avait comme synonyme Opuntia engelmannii var lindheimeri et Opuntia texana . Sorry

Bonjour Beubeu, j'ai un 'mojavensis' qui est quasiment identique au tient. Les photos que tu trouveras sur le net feront apparaître des plantes plutôt vert-glauque mais il peut être très 'gris-bleuté' également.
Cet Opuntia est parfaitement rustique et a tenu sans dégat à -17°C en 2012 alors qu'il avait été planté quelques mois auparavant.

Je cite J.Fergusson dans son livre" PRICKLYPEARS" page31
Opuntia robusta var. robusta typically has blue green pads they are round and flattened like pancakes ;They are 20 - 60 cm long and as large.
Opuntia orbiculata also has round flattened pads but they are green( no blue green). They are about 20 - 30 cm long as wide.
